🍂 How We (as Locals) Spend Thanksgiving Weekend in Bend

Thanksgiving weekend in Bend is one of our favorite times of the year — crisp mornings, sunny afternoons, and cozy evenings by the fire. Whether you’re gathering with family, shopping local, or soaking in the peaceful scenery, it’s a weekend that perfectly blends adventure and relaxation.

Here’s how we like to spend Thanksgiving weekend here at home.

🦃 Thursday: Feast and Relax

Thanksgiving Day is all about slowing down and savoring the season. If you’re staying at one of our spacious family homes — like Lone Pine Lodge, Buckboard Lodge, Cooper’s Rest Getaway, or Sonata Getaway — there’s plenty of room to cook, gather, and celebrate together.

Each home features fully equipped kitchens, cozy fireplaces, and gathering spaces perfect for watching the game, playing cards, or sipping Oregon Pinot by the fire.

Prefer to skip the cooking? Make reservations early at Roam, Washington Dining & Cocktails, or Wild Rye at Brasada Ranch for seasonal menus and locally inspired fare.

🎿 Friday: Adventure Day

After a day of feasting, Friday of our Thanksgiving weekend in Bend is made for fresh air and snowy adventures!

Kick things off with a walk through Shevlin Park or along the Deschutes River Trail before heading up to Mt. Bachelor for skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing. Not into downhill slopes? Try a peaceful outing on the Edison Sno-Park or Wanoga Sno-Park trails for a more relaxed winter adventure.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, warm up in town with a stop at Oregon Spirit Distillers in Bend for a cozy tasting flight of locally crafted whiskey and gin — the perfect way to toast the long weekend.

🛍️ Saturday: Eat Local & Shop Small

Saturday is all about celebrating Bend’s small businesses and creative community.

We love starting the morning with a warm coffee from Lone Pine Coffee Roasters or Watershed Coffee Roasters (formerly Looney Bean), then browsing our favorite spots for Small Business Saturday:

  • Outside In – Stylish Bend essentials and outdoor gear.
  • Old Iron Works – A creative mix of art, jewelry, and handmade gifts.
  • Downtown Bend and The Old Mill District – Both packed with local shops, boutiques, and festive lights.

After shopping, grab a relaxed meal at Roam or Washington Dining & Cocktails before winding down with a drink at Wild Rye at Brasada Ranch.

🎄 Sunday: Savor the Season

By Sunday, the holiday spirit is in full swing. Start your morning slow with another local coffee stop (find our list of top coffee shops in Central Oregon), then enjoy a walk through Downtown Bend or along the Deschutes River as the town starts to sparkle with lights and festive decor.

In the evening, the Bend Community Tree Lighting in Drake Park and Sunriver’s Grand Illumination officially kick off the season. Both events feature local music, cocoa, and the kind of small-town charm that makes Central Oregon feel like home. Back at your Bend vacation rental, finish the weekend with a movie night, a round of cards, or one last soak in the hot tub before heading home. (View vacation rentals with hot tubs to make sure this is an option.)
